Better Way to Stay…The Hotel Package

September 16th, 2014 by Sharon Welch-Blair

hotelpackagesAs a continuation of last week’s “Free at a B&B” post, we thought you might like to see Better Way to Stay’s video “The Hotel Package”. What is Better Way to Stay?  I think their own words (from their website) say it best:

“The Better Way To Stay, is a grassroots campaign to help travelers discover today’s inns and B&B experience. Brought to you by the Professional Association of Innkeepers International and hundreds of B&B associations, directories, vendors and innkeepers, the Better Way To Stay campaign seeks to bust myths and build confidence in the B&B brand. While hotels and motels are one option, inns and B&Bs add amenities like complimentary breakfasts, free parking, afternoon or evening refreshments, free wi-fi adding up to $150 per two-night stay in extra value. Add a smile at check in and an innkeeper who remembers your name at the end of a long day, and the list of B&B bonuses becomes priceless.”

Pretty neat stuff, that aligns perfectly with the mission of The Empress and other bed and breakfasts.  So enjoy this fun and funny video and then book your room with The Empress to get the “bed and breakfast package” where it began!

40th Annual Little Rock Farmer’s Market

rivermarket_overview_4_1
Located in the River Market’s two outdoor, open-air pavilions, which overlook Riverfront Park and the Arkansas River, the Little Rock Farmer’s Market is celebrating its 40th year. Every Tuesday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, enjoy the market that is loved by both locals and tourists. Filled with farmers selling farm-fresh produce straight to consumers from the backs of their trucks, the Farmer’s Market has served as a seasonal institution and local destination favorite for four decades.
Find bargains on Arkansas crops and an array of handmade arts and crafts from April through October. Some of the produce you will find at the market includes: peaches, eggplant, strawberries, watermelon, beans, peas, corn, herbs, plants, greens, tomatoes, plums, berries, beets, cucumber, peppers, potatoes, squash, asparagus, cabbage, broccoli, zucchini, lettuce, onions, spinach and radishes.

A weekend stay at The Empress of Little Rock is the perfect time to visit the Little Rock Farmer’s Market and find your favorite crafts, fruits and veggies to take home and enjoy during the week. Call to book your stay now, while the market is still in season…501-374-7966!

SoMa in Southern Living

July 31st, 2014 by Sharon Welch-Blair

Southern Living bernice gardenmagazine is an institution in the south.  Our favorite recipes, decorating ideas and crafts all come from its glossy pages and colorful online stories.  So of course, SoMa residents were thrilled to see our neighborhood featured as “The Next Great Neighborhood” on The Daily South blog.  For those new to the neighborhood or just visiting, SoMa is what we call the area on the south end of Main Street.  Slightly separate from the bustle of downtown, SoMa still maintains a vibrancy that you can only get in an urban setting.  Regulars enjoy the fresh baked breads and goodies at Community Bakery and Boulevard Bread Company.  We walk down streets that are adorned with art to our own community garden.  We eat locally grown food at The Root Cafe and enjoy small batch ice cream at the Green Corner Store.  And we often enjoy a band and nightcap at South on Main.  We love our neighborhood.  We love that this area surrounded by tree-lined streets and historic houses is once again home to a thriving business, art and entertainment scene.  Wboulevard breade hope you will join us at The Empress and learn to love it too!

The French Connection

September 5th, 2012 by Lisa

A Gothic Queen Anne Structure with Queen Victoria presiding over the Dining Table seems about as British as they come…but The Empress has a more diverse European flair than you may at first think.  Bob Blair and Sharon Welch-Blair, owners of the Empress, are currently touring France; so we thought now would be a perfect time to focus on The French Connection at The Empress of Little Rock!!!

Pictured here is our incredible eight foot, 1870’s sculpture, which came directly from a Paris street where it served Parisians water for many years.  Now it servesThe Empress and our guests, not water, but with a beautiful view.

And here is our statue’s present day Parisian counterpart.  Sharon snapped a picture of this beauty still in use on the streets of Paris!  This one is cast iron and made in 1923. Water was pouring in a steady stream out of the top.
